7 Fun Winter Activities

The time has come, we are officially on Winter time now in Sweden. For many (most) this does not bring much excitement, it is daunting and depressing. BUT it doesn't have to be that way. Yes, the sun is disappearing and the darkness will cloud us, yes it is cold and you have to wear layer upon layer of clothing in order to avoid frostbite, but there are some really cool things about Winter, and that is what we are choosing to focus on.
1. Cozy Dinner Parties
Dinner parties are always a good idea, especially in Winter. In winter we can light the fire, burn candles and create a super cozy setting.Â
2. Ski TripsÂ
Ski trips are awesome, even if you are not interested in skiing. Its the roadtrip to get to the slopes with great tunes and good vibes, the coziness of staying in a cabin or lodge with family and friends and a fireplace, its the after-ski social activities, and of course if you are interested in skiing, then its the skiing!Â

3. Christmas markets
Markets in general are always a pleasant experience, but the Christmas markets are something more. In Sweden villages take Christmas markets very seriously, many people dress up in old fashioned clothing, there are stalls selling hot chocolate, glogg and saffron buns, and there are Christmas carols being played. Everyone is happy, its the festive time! Some solid advice when planning to attend a Christmas market, get there early, they are very popular and parking can be limited, and dress warm!!! Winter in Sweden is cold! And the Christmas markets are so much fun that you will want to walk the entire market possibly twice.

4. Ice fishing
An experience worth trying if you have never done it before. Especially if you are a fan of fishing. It is interesting to see how the ice is broken to create the hole for fishing, and is a lovely experience with a little fire and bbq on the ice. Again, be sure to dress warm!
5. Ice-skating
In Sweden the temperature is so low that almost all of the lakes freeze over completely. There are over 97,500 lakes in Sweden, that is a lot of surface for ice-skating possibilities. But it is not only the lakes that we skate on, there are also skating rinks set up in some cities and villages that make it convenient and safer for night skating.
6. Movie nights
Its time for some serious Netflix and chill! Get some movie marathons happening, find a sequel or addictive series, whip up some Midsummer-tinis and get the popcorn poppin'. Sometimes it is just too cold to be out, on these days its ok to get your inner couch potato on!
7. Embrace the Snow!
- Build a snow man, make it a competition, who can build the biggest and best
- Snow ball wars
- Cross-country skiing
- Snow walking.. put your big boots on and tackle the snow. Be careful, it might be slippery

See, the winter doesn't have to be so bad. It is all about pushing yourself to get out of bed and tackling the weather head first.
You got this!
